 A Brief history of matt

Oh, hi! I didn't see you there. My name is Matt Farmer, and yeah, I am running for the Texas House of Representatives, District 64, in the Democratic Primary.
So, here's a quick lil summary about me. I've lived in North Texas my whole life. I was brought up in a conservative home. I moved to Denton after getting accepted into UNT's humanities program, got a job at a local pizza shop, joined a folk band, and graduated with a B.S in English Writing & Rhetoric (with a double-minor in Communications and Political Science).

Throughout my time in Denton...
- I have been involved in several local political movements, like Frack Free Denton, the Evan Stone for Judge campaign, Indivisible, among many others.
- I was an English tutor for low-income students and students with disabilities at UNT through the TRiO Department.
- I have booked bands around town for several DIY events, and I was on the panel for the Denton Music Town Hall meeting after the J&J's basement closed.
- I've made a bunch of pizza for my fellow Dentonites.

But most importantly, I've met countless people with the resolve and kindness that make me proud to say I'm a Texan.

Yet, for whatever reason, this type of person is not present within our designated seat in the Texas House of Representatives. Our seat at the People’s House has been long filled with the butts of complacent and corrupt politicians.  Too long have the people of Denton, Corinth, Krum, and our surrounding area been subject to neglectful legislation and a dereliction of duty. That’s why I decided to run for this seat, and that’s why I’m asking you to join this political movement. We have many bumps and chasms in the road ahead, but as Martin Luther King Jr. and the abolitionist Theodore Parker once said, “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.”

I, too, believe this long road begins with our own personal willingness to act when called upon-- especially at a time when the financial and political elite have so much, while the rest of us do not.

Please join me on this odyssey.
